Earlier this year we took Emma in for a routine exam and found out that she has optic nerve hypoplasia in her right eye. This means that the nerve in that eye is too small to function properly so it does not transmit images as it should. Therefore Emma is blind in her right eye. It is one of the few things that cannot be corrected with any transplant or surgery. All we can do is to wait and see if the eye changes on its own. It will be interesting when she can talk more because then we’ll really know what she can and cannot see. Brooke thinks she might be able to see outlines of images in that eye because it doesn’t seem to affect her daily functions. We plan to do a “corrective” surgery in the next couple of years to simply straighten the eye so that it looks correct. The surgery is purely cosmetic, so it won’t change her vision (or lack of) in that eye, but it will help keep it in line with the other eye. This has been a touching experience for us as we have seen how this challenge has actually blessed our family.
Our fun-filled summer included a Lake Powell trip as well as a motorhome trip to Cherry Hill, located in Kaysville, Utah. Cherry Hill is a camping resort with a water park, miniature golf, batting cages, and rock climbing, and turned out to be one of our favorite family trips.
We had the opportunity to work with the children in our ward this year. Brooke was the pianist in primary. She enjoyed being with the children every Sunday and helping them prepare for programs. Aaron taught in Priesthood the first half of the year and then became the Scout leader for the 9-year-olds. He enjoyed doing projects with the boys and having an excuse to use his tools for fun projects with them.
We are happily expecting our second little girl, due to arrive in April. We keep telling Emma she’s going to be a big sister, but anytime we mention the word “baby” she brings us her doll. We’re sure she’ll be a good helper when her sister arrives. This year concluded with Aaron’s graduation, and we are thrilled to both be alumni now! We recently accepted a job offer in Riverside, California. Aaron will be a Developing Manager for Ginger Masonry, one of the top masonry companies in the nation. We are most grateful for the abundant blessings in our life and wish you all a joyful holiday season.

I remember when I had your mom as a nurse when I had jack and when i saw her shortly after she told me you were pregnant, with the first of course, now 2! Congrats!
